Richard Hill Church of England School Charity
Former Rector of All Saints’ Thurcaston with Cropston, Richard Hill began educating children in the parish villages who had no other means of accessing an education in the early 18th Century.
He began his informal school in the porch of the church which is still the main entrance to All Saints’ Church Today.
In 1715 he founded a school house opposite the church on the land owned by the Rector in the gardens of his rectory.
The main school building is still existent today and is now a private dwelling.
When the modern Richard Hill Primary School further up Anstey Lane was built, the old school and building was sold off. The monies from this sale formed the basis of investments which the Richard Hill Church of England School Charity was founded.
The Charity is independent of the school and has objectives to uphold Richard Hill’s vision to help the religious and educational development of local young people under the age of 25.
Today we used the annual income generated from investments to provide assistance to young people who may not otherwise gain support from the local authority for educational and Christian faith related support in line with our Charity’s Objects.
